Photography Workshops: The Creative Arts Kolkata 2010 Part 1

I recently conducted a photographic workshop for The Creative Arts, Kolkata with fifteen very enthusiastic participants. We photographed around Kolkata: the flower market near the Howrah bridge, the river and the Princep Monument and street shots on Diwali evening. Hua Hin, Thailand: The Night Market Part 1

The night market at Hua Hin, a beach resort about three hours south of Bangkok, is a fascinating mix of food and shopping. This two part photo essay shot over a few days in Hua Hin focuses on both.

Sikkim Trekking: The North Sikkim Plateau

A yak caravan makes it's way from Giagong to Cholamu in North Sikkim. This photograph taken in the summer of 1987 was well before the road to Gurudongmar and the North Sikkim Plateau.

Prayer Images

I was shooting a prayer service in a Wat (temple) in Bangkok last week when I suddenly realised that a lot of my photographs are linked to prayer and worship. The photo essay below shows some of them.

Himalayas Wildlife: Marmot below SirSir La pass, Ladakh

The SirSir La is one of the seven passes to cross on the trail from Phanjila to Padum. I was descended from the pass on a September evening in 2009  heading for the village of Photoksur when I spotted this marmot peering out it's burrow. It vanished inside again, only to resurface after a few minutes and gave me a chance to take a few photographs.

Autumn is here and it is the start of the trekking season in Nepal. Dhampus lies on the trail to the Annapurna Base Camp and as you can see has a marvellous view!
