Sikkim: Lhonak, the Home of the Herdsmen in North Sikkim -Usually off limit to tourists and trekkers alike, Lhonak is one of the most sparsely populated regions in Sikkim separated from the main Teesta valley by the Lhonak La pass, a formidable barrier for all but the most intrepid. This is an essay shot many years ago in the two weeks that I spent in the valley one summer.

  1. The landscapes work breathtakingly well in black and white. The mountains and the vast expanses lose nothing in the process of colour transformation.Wonderful.

And your North Sikkim photographs are awesome, the play of light and shadow, the lenswork, all amazing! Is there a special lens you used for a couple of photographs in the series? The effect is magical.

  6. Lhonak is a very special place... Inam these were shot on film some of them with a 20mm wide angle lens.. that is the reason for the expansive effect!
